This might help understand the procedures. http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Importing_a_motorcycle_to_GermanyYour base quartermaster can help also. They should have most of the answers for private vehicle import/export.

Go to: http://www.kbb.com This is the Kelly Blue Book website. You can enter your zip and info on the bike and get some market values. You can also look on Ebay and see what other people are asking for the same bike with similar miles. Remember, the right price for something is whatever the buyer is willing to pay!!!

883 or 1200?It would be a nice bike. Depending on your size and the more experience you gain, you may grow tired of a small bike. All in all, i think the 03 anniv is a nice bike! love the blue and the silver stripe with the “100″ on it. Take the safety class, you will learn alot!

Think about ALL the motorcycling you do. Not just this one long trip, but how do you use your bike from day to day? Touring would be a lot more comfortable on a big cruiser, a Vulcan or Star (and let’s not forget Honda Shadow). But if you only go on long trips once in a great while, the Sportster might be better for you all-around.Nobody knows better than you how comfortable you are on the Sportster. Could you do 14 hours on it? Would it be fun or would it be horrible? Only you can answer that question. The small gas tank is not really a disadvantage, because you want to stop every hour or so anyway to get off the bike and walk around for five minutes or so. My bike has a 7.5 gal. gas tank, and when I’m on a long trip with other bikers I’m always waiting for -them- to pull over to get gas. (I always joke that I fill up the bike once a month whether it needs it or not). Anyway I wouldn’t consider the small tank a great hindrance. In the old days there were not sportbike or touring bikes, just standards. If you wanted a touring bike you bought a standard and put a windshield and bags on it. A ‘touring bike’ was any bike you could bungee a sleeping bag to. 8^)

Get a used 900 Kaw, it will do 70 comfortably on the highway, its a liquid, fuel injected, and any kaw is much less likely than a Sportster to have any problems.

If the cd player/ radio is not in a covered area then it should be fine in the rain because it is more then likely a marine type radio which means it can get wet and still work fine.. If it is in a covered area it is probably a standard radio and rain and water will probably fry it if turned on when wet.
